Calculus can just dieee

I can't get my head around calculus... like at all. It's weird because when I'm in class, I can get the material. As I go along with the professor, it's so bearable and easy to understand that I can do most, if not all, of the steps of a problem myself without messing up. Plus, I go to a pretty small campus, and most classes are online, but STEM. So there aren't that many students in this class, and I'm not uncomfortable asking questions. But when I go home and attempt the homework problems, it genuinely feels like I have no clue. Mind Wipe. Totally blank. I don't understand why. Maybe because it's just no words, just numbers and symbols, but my gosh, I wish so sooo badly that I was someone who could get math easily. The amount of time I've had to retake math since middle school is embarrassing. You'd think going through every position in math at least twice would finally make it click or at least make me more sure of myself, but I'm not. I truly don't get it.

And it's not that I struggle in all things math. When math is applied, and in a word problem like for chemistry or physics, I can easily do it. But when it's just do this and that, it seems like there's no real goal or end, and it's just a bunch of numbers; my brain capacity immediately decreases; it's becoming ridiculous and embarrassing. To show how bad it is, the main reason I don't have a 4.0 GPA is because of math. It's so bad. I messed up college algebra twice, and now I'm on my second try at Calc. Gosh, end the pain, please. I'm solid in all my other subjects. Writing, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Music- everything else is fine, but nooooo not Calc, not Math. Does anybody know any tips for understanding calculus??
